Dawn of a foldable era: Apple's Sept. 9 'Surprise and shine' event

There’s just two days left until Apple kicks-off their annual September event which starts at 10am PT (or a rather early 3am AEST on September 10). This will be John Ternus’ first event in charge, after Tim Cook stepped down at the end of August.

As usual, a livestream will be available on apple.com, YouTube Live or Apple TV.

This year we’re expecting to see Apple’s new iPhones including the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the first foldable device - the iPhone Ultra, if the rumours are to be believed. I’m interested to see what Apple does with the Ultra, especially given Samsung’s line-up this year.

Can Apple finally move the needle in the foldable market? And will they focus heavily on Siri AI, which for third-party developers still remains quite restrictive?

Will the Camera Control live on in this year’s models? I’ve actually enjoyed having both this and the Action Button - having a dedicated Camera Control has allowed me to experiment with different uses of the Action Button. Although a simpler Camera Control should still suffice. I really only use it as a shutter control.

Apple Watches are rumoured to get a refresh including a new chip, but no major redesign this year though that’s meant to be on the way for next year or 2028. And AirPods 5 might make an appearance.

We should also see the release candidates for Apple’s 27 OS’ including iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, macOS, tvOS.
